Parkinson Lee Executive Search are delighted to be retained partners with a global Logistics and Supply Chain business in their appointment of a Director of Safety and Risk.

Reporting into the Chief Operating Officer and joining the Senior Leadership Team, you will be responsible for developing and leading the companies 5-year SHEQ business plan.

You will own all aspects of the companies safety plan, prioritising a behavioural programme of change and delivery of an employee led Safety culture.

To provide leadership to the SHEQ team, ensuring they remain aligned to our organisational goals and values. Supporting the design and delivery of multiple Safety focussed works-streams aimed at the elimination and / or mitigation of Risk across each of the company’s operations, improving performance through the evolution SHEQ management systems, to current standards and legislation.

As the Director of Safety and Risk your key responsibilities will include:

•Represent Safety and Risk perspectives in strategic decision making

•Set direction for effective health and safety management and appropriate workplace wellbeing programmes for employees, work proactively across functions to establish and maintain a programme of SHEQ continuous improvement

•To own a Behavioural Safety change programme on behalf of the SLT and prioritise an employee led Safety culture

•Provide Leadership to the SHEQ team to ensure alignment with business objectives and delivery of the ‘Safety in the Line’ model

•To develop a structured Safety Audit programme

•To own Safety management for facilities/buildings and property

•To own Risk in the context of change management

•Monitor, evaluate and review existing, new and upcoming health and safety legislation and ensure that the company has systems and procedures in place to meet legal compliance and other requirements

•Reporting and presenting Safety to internal and external stakeholders

We are inviting candidates with the below skills to apply:

•Graduate, with Safety and or Risk qualifications (degree level or NEBOSH diploma level)

•Corporate Member of IOSH

•At least 5 years’ experience in a senior Safety leadership role (in a logistics environment would be an advantage)

•Multi-site, national experience

•Developing high performing teams aligned to business objectives

•Ability to create and lead Safety strategies

•Influential and dynamic leadership capability, ideally demonstrated within a logistics in particular transport environment, with experience in training, coaching and mentoring to develop health and safety knowledge and capability

•Track record of delivering and embedding a progressive Safety culture

•Experience in the delivery of a Safety Management System including policies, infrastructural risks and operational Safety risks

•A comprehensive knowledge of current health and safety legislation, management and standards

•Ability to interpret and provide authoritative advice on health and safety and risk management issues

•Knowledge of workplace wellbeing initiatives and how they add value to an organisation

•Experience of successfully managing complex projects through a team and across multiple functions within an organisation
